Megan, a pupil at St Bede’s RC High School in Blackburn, was described by her brother Lee Charnley as someone who ‘brings joy and smiles to all she met’.

Des Callaghan, headteacher of St Bede’s, said: “Everyone at the school has been shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Megan’s tragic death.

“We are continuing to offer support and counselling to all those in school who have been affected by this extremely sad news.

“Megan was a bright, cheerful and caring girl.

“She was a very popular pupil who also supported others when they needed help, even those in other year groups at St Bede’s.

“Our thoughts and prayers are, of course with Megan’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

Her funeral will be held at St Peter’s Church, Jessel Street, Mill Hill on Monday, March 6 at 1pm and her family have requested mourners wear bright clothes or Blackburn Rovers football or Blackburn Hawks hockey shirts.

Her family made the decision to donate her organs and believe this has saved the lives of at least three people.
