A NEW art exhibition to celebrate East Lancashire's artists is set to open at Towneley Hall in Burnley next week.

A variety of still-life and portraits will be on show, including work from Nelson-born artists Orlando Greenwood and Hugh Gresty.

Visitors will also have a chance to see some of the artists’ personal possessions including sketchbooks, palettes and sets of paint brushes.

Cllr Bea Foster, Burnley Council’s executive member for leisure and culture, said: "Towneley Hall has a fantastic collection of works by Orlando Greenwood and Hugh Gresty and this exhibition is really a celebration of this collection.

"I’d like to encourage residents and visitors to come along and admire the work by the talented Lancastrians."

The exhibition runs from Thursday, March 2, until Monday, May 29, at the hall, which is open Saturday to Thursday from noon until 5pm.

The entry to the hall costs £5, which buys visitors a 12-month pass.

Entry is free for students and children under 17s.
