A 27-YEAR-OLD man who turned up at his ex-girlfriend's house in breach of a restraining order then slapped her across the face as he pushed into her home.

Blackburn magistrates heard it was not the first time Samuel James Brodie had breached the restraining order and also that he was being recalled on prison licence.

Brodie, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order and assaulting Annalisa Stockley and two charges of shoplifting.

He was jailed for 18 weeks and ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Brodie was made subject to the restraining order in September and a condition was that he had no contact with Miss Stockley.

In the early hours of New Years Eve she heard a knock on her door and when she opened it Brodie was there.

"She said he was going mad about her seeing someone else," said Miss Allan. "She described him as psychotic, as if he hadn't had any sleep,"

Miss Strockley had already put the defendant's belongings outside her flat for his mother to collect but he ignored them and pushed his way past her.

"As he did he slapped her across the face," said Miss Allan.

Ian Huggan, defending, entered guilty pleas on behalf of Brodie after telling him he was not able to climb the stairs into the dock because of problems with his legs.

"He has several deep vein thrombosis because of drug problems," said Mr Huggan. "He knows that if he doesn't sort himself out he is heading towards an early demise."
