THE dawn of a new century was celebrated in unusual style in Harwood.

In 1999 many were terrified of the idea of the Millennium bug. Fears were rife that when the bells tolled at midnight on New Year's Day 2000, that all computer technology would come to a crashing halt.

Fortunately, the clocks handled the calendar change, but the concept of the pesky bug made for some amusing interpretations.

Not least was the Harwood Hams' rather colourful creation in Hickory Dickory and the Millennium Bug.

The very modern take on a traditional pantomime took to the stage at Christ’s Church School in Stich mi Lane for three shows in February 2000.

The panto was written to mark the Millennium by Jim Spherinck of Jasper Productions.

Hams’ Roy Pearson produced the show for Harwood. Twenty six dancers were trained by Traicee Russ and Rosie Lund trained the chorus - which was noted in The Bolton News at the time for being “larger than usual”.
