A 25-YEAR-OLD man who claimed he had stolen because he was “desperate” snubbed the chance to reduce his debts by more than £350 in less than two hours.
Having dealt with him for shoplifting Blackburn magistrates told Shaun Anthony Clark they would write off £360 of his debt to the court as long as he remained on the court corridor until the close of the first session at 1pm.

But having been released from the cells Clark was not seen again and his £180 an hour opportunity was lost.
Clark, of St Clement Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to stealing fragrances worth £290 from Debenhams. He was fined £120 with £30 victim surcharge.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client’s benefits had been stopped and he had no money. “He carried out this offence out of desperation,” said Mr Taylor.
