A TOUCH of Hollywood comes to Bolton next week as local actors step into the shoes of Tinseltown’s biggest names.

Phoenix Theatre Company will bring a gripping courtroom drama to life with a production of A Few Good Men.

Written by Aaron Sorkin as a stage play, before being adapted into a film starring Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson, the plot follows the court-martial of two men accused of killing fellow Marine at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.

Director Connor O’Beirne said: “It’s a story of power, egos and, ultimately, justice.

“And although written about an incident on an American base it’s relevant to all of us – especially if you’ve ever suspected that justice is not being done and those truly responsible are escaping without punishment.”

The play opens on Wednesday at Stepping Stones Nursery in Chorley Old Road.

Ben Latham takes in the role of lead defence counsel Daniel Kaffee - a role made famous by Tom Cruise.

He said: “The fact that it’s essentially a true story has made it all the more powerful.

“Playing a part previously taken by a big Hollywood name is in itself exciting, but perhaps even more appealing for me is that I’m also acting out something like the real defence that these men had.”

John Whitehead, who takes on Jack Nicholson’s role of Colonel Jessop, isn’t feeling the pressure of bringing such a well-known film to the local stage

He added: “It is an incredible movie and a compelling and gripping piece of drama and I can honestly say that the play is just as good!

“Many of the memorable scenes and character lines will be familiar to those who have seen the film. I have some great one liners that have almost taken on a life of their own at rehearsals. It is going to be a great production and a piece of live theatre not to be missed.”
