A FUNDRAISING audience were left seeing double when Bolton comedian, Peter Kay, invited his ‘lookalike’ on stage to study their resemblance.

Rob Frain travelled to Blackpool on December 2 to see the Phoenix Nights star’s special Q&A evening in aid of Polly Haydock.

The Atherton mother-of three has been given only six months to live, and Mr Kay kindly volunteered to host the session to help generate some of the £100,000 she needs to pay for lifesaving treatment in Germany for colorectal cancer.

“A few days after purchasing tickets we were emailed with questions to ask Peter,” said Mr Frain.

“My question was: ‘As I am often mistaken for Peter Kay, do you not get annoyed with people shouting ‘cheese cake’ and ‘garlic bread’ at you?’

“I thought nothing of it when I sent it.”

But soon after taking his seat in the Blackpool Opera House auditorium, the 33-year-old got a bit of a shock.

Reading questions from a tablet computer onstage, the comedian went in search of his spitting image.

“Amazingly, mine was the second question. Peter said: ‘Rob Frain where are you?’

“I was shocked and wanted the seat to just swallow me up.

“But my wife, Amy, shouted ‘he's here!’

“He repeated the first line of my question and said: “Come on Rob, get up here and let’s have a look.

“It sounded like he was slightly impressed with the likeness and the only thing I could say was: ‘can I get a selfie?’ to which he kindly obliged.”

The photo was shared on the Peter Kay Facebook fan forum and received more than 1,000 likes.

Now the IT manager from Southport is hopeful of Mr Kay taking up one of the suggestions from his online fanbase.

He added: “Many comments say how alike we are and some even asking for a Carshare episode featuring the two of us, which I'd absolutely love by the way!”
