THE best of the Bolton school community have been given a chance to shine.

Behind classroom doors are thousands of teachers, pupils and staff working hard every day to bring top class education to the community.

And here we honour the achievements of those people and places that make up all that’s good in the borough’s schools at the second Bolton News School Awards.

Primary Class of the Year, sponsored by Bespoke Composite Doors: Year one Lostock Primary School

THE winners of the Primary Class of the Year are described as a “lovely, friendly, fun and exceptionally well behaved bunch”.

The year one class at Lostock Primary School walked away with the award after being nominated by Lorna Tyldsley who in the last academic year was the class governor.

She said: “I spent a wonderful lunchtime eating with the children and listening to their favourite and least favourite parts of school life — they are articulate and polite.

“Afterwards we played outside, visiting Disneyland Paris and going on all the rides, then we went to London landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the London Eye and Houses of Parliament.

“What a fabulous, fun and imagination-filled playtime!”

Mrs Tyldsley goes on to add: “I spent time with the class on another occasion whilst they were taught maths and was most impressed by their concentration, attention and behaviour.

“They are a lovely, friendly, fun and exceptionally well behaved bunch of five and six-year-olds who are an absolute pleasure to spend time with. They are a real credit to their teacher, Miss Rowley, and to the school.”

Praising them on stage headteacher Vicki Guest described them as a wonderful class with a wonderful teacher and governor.

Class teacher Helen Rowley added: “We are all really, really proud.”, it is such a lovely thank you for the class.

“These children are just a small class and have shown amazing respect and kindness to each other and other people.” Lucas Bishop, aged seven, came along to represent his class and help collect the award.

He said: “It felt really good to win and we will all be celebrating.

“I was nervous but really excited to come and get the award on stage!”
