A SCHEME to put outside wall insulation in Horwich terraced houses is to be extended.

The Bolton Council scheme improved more than 100 properties in Fairbairn Street, Gooch Street, Hartley Street, Hawkshaw Street, Stephenson Street and Watts Street last year.

Now the council has secured more cash to do the same for more terraced houses.

The properties in the next phase are Armstrong Street, Iron Street and Tredgold Street.

The contractor is visiting properties and drop-in sessions are being held at Horwich RMI for residents to find out more.

Horwich and Blackrod ward councillor, Stephen Pickup said: “There was a really high take-up of the last offer — you only need to walk down by the Railway Terraces to see the improvements. I am really pleased that we are now able to extend this offer to a greater number of residents to enable them to be more energy efficient, while at the same time helping to reduce their fuel bills.”

Ward councillor, Alan Bury said: “People often ask ‘what does the council do for me?’ Here is a cast-iron example of how Bolton Council, in combination with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, has done something tangible to help residents of Horwich.

“The programme has led to reduced energy bills for previous recipients and the quality of work performed has been reported to be of a high standard. “If the programme can be rolled out to other areas of Horwich and Blackrod then that would be fantastic.”

The scheme is in partnership with Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Green Deal for Communities, and the council secured more cash by working with National Energy Action and Warm Zones.
