OLYMPIC golden boy Jason Kenny and his cycling star wife will be turning on Bolton’s Christmas lights next month.

The Farnworth flyer will be making his first public appearance in his hometown since his glorious Olympic performance, kick-starting the festive celebrations at the showpiece event on November 17.

Thousands of fans are expected to flock to Victoria Square to see Jason —who won three more gold medals at the Rio games this summer— turn on Bolton’s Christmas lights alongside fellow Team GB hero Laura, who he married last month.

It will be one of the golden couple’s first public appearances since their triumphant time in Brazil — having missed the homecoming parades in Manchester and London while on holiday.

It will also be the first chance for Bolton residents and cycling fans to show their pride in the six times gold medal winner and his record-breaking wife.

Jason, who was born in Farnworth and attended Mount St Joseph’s school, now holds six Olympic gold medals in total, the most ever for a British Olympian, except for Sir Chris Hoy.

And Laura is now the most decorated female British Olympian of all time, with four gold medals to her name.

Whilst the pair live in Cheshire, they regularly return to Jason’s hometown and will be joined by his parents Michael and Lorraine, who still live locally, for the all-important switch on event.

The Christmas lights switch on will start at 5pm on Thursday November 17, with Jason counting down to the big switch-on at 7pm.

The Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, said: "We're really pleased to be able to welcome Jason, Laura and Jason’s mum and dad to Bolton's Christmas Lights switch-on and thrilled that he has agreed to flick the switch for us this year.

“Jason is a local lad who has really put Bolton on the map and we’re all incredibly proud of what he has achieved. We can’t wait to congratulate him on his success.

"Starting with the lights switch-on, we will have something for all the family in the run up to Christmas, including plenty of festive entertainment and attractions in the town centre."
