TRIBUTES from across the political divide have been paid to a former mayor.

Brian Collis, 72, of Blackburn Road, Rib-chester, represented the village on Ribble Valley Council as a Liberal Democrat for many years.

Mr Collis and wife Pat moved to Ribchester in 1964 and took over the running of the Black Bull pub for 20 years.

He was Ribble Valley Mayor in 1999, but lost his struggle with illness that he had fought for the past two years.

His funeral took place at St Wilfrid's CE Church, Ribchester, this week.

Former Conservative councillor for Wilpshire Chris Holtom served as his deputy mayor in 1999 to 2000.

He said: "I got on very well with Brian and was very fond of him. We worked closely together.

"He was a very nice person and I was very happy to be his deputy."
