A MUM has told of her terror after her drink was suspected to have been spiked with a date rape drug on a night out.

Mother-of-two Michelle Rhodes, 28, said the incident meant she could remember almost nothing about what happened to her after going to Great Harwood to celebrate finishing her exams.

She said it was only good fortune that a friend spotted that she had been drugged, and she was taken safely home.

Ms Rhodes said friends told her that she was "screaming uncontrollably", and was violently ill after getting home, having only drunk three bottles of beer.

These are the symptoms of date rape drug rohypnol.

She said she was sure that her drink was spiked, and that she had never felt like that before.

Police confirmed they have had a complaint and were investigating.

Lancashire police could not provide figures to show how many incidents of drink spiking there had been in the county.

However, Sergeant Ian Corbett said that drink spiking was something all people had to be aware of on a night out.

He said: "It does go on, and can be very serious.

"Drugs like rohypnol can affect people in very different ways.

"It can either make you keel over almost as if you are unconscious, or it can make you very aggressive."

Ms Rhodes, who lives in the Milnshaw area of Accrington, said: "It was awful.

"I was out with a few friends on Sunday night but, after a couple of drinks, I just don't remember anything.

"I was lucky that I was with a friend because she was able to take me home and put me to bed.

"When it kicked in, I was going absolutely mental and screaming a lot.

"I've only just started to feel better now. Whatever it was that was put in my drink it really knocked me for six.

"It is terrifying to think what might have happened to me if I had become separated from my friends."

Ms Rhodes said she was celebrating finishing her last A-Level exam at Accrington and Rossendale College.

She said: "I know how I feel after three beers and this was something I've never experienced before. I was in a very dark place."
