A BURGLAR under the effects of a cocktail of medication and drugs raided the living quarters of a pub.

Jamie Reid went upstairs at the Dog Inn, Longridge, stole a mobile phone and has been jailed for two years and five months.

Reid 28-year-old, of Berry Lane, Longridge, pleaded guilty to an offence of burglary during a hearing at Preston Crown Court.

It was his third conviction for a domestic burglary.

The offence happened on April 28 this year. One of the pub's co-owners had gone to use a toilet on the first floor when he heard a noise.

The public did not have access to certain parts of the building.

Reid, whom he knew, was seen walking downstairs from the private quarters.

He was challenged. The defendant turned out his pockets, but nothing was found.

David Macro, prosecuting, said a taxi driver picked up the defendant and his girlfriend that evening, taking them to Preston railway station.

Reid offered to sell the phone to the driver, but this was refused.

The phone went on to be recovered by police. Reid went on to admit having gone up to the third floor of the premises and into a bedroom where the phone was taken.

Miss Sarah Booth, defending, said it had been an opportunist offence.

A friend had told Reid they were allowed access to a second floor function room.

"The defendant was under the influence of a cocktail of medication and drugs.

"He thought he had climbed to the second floor, but it was the third floor," she told the court.

"There was no deliberate targeting of the premises. He was upstairs in a matter of seconds."
