A MIDDLE-aged man suffered head and spinal injuries after flipping his car in Heaton last night.

Emergency services were called to Gilnow Road at 10.50pm after the driver of a red Toyota Celica overturned his vehicle.

Paramedics required the help of local fire crews to cut the man out of his vehicle, before he was taken to hospital.

He is believed to have suffered injuries to his head as well as suspected spinal damage.

The man is believed to be middle-aged.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and Greater Manchester Police are carrying out an investigation into what took place.

Gilnow Road was closed in both directions for a period to allow evidence to be collected.

Residents have previously complained about the number of car accidents that have taken place in the Gilnow Road area.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the man's injuries are not thought to be serious and that no arrests have been made regarding the incident.
