IT was young people and adults collecting top GCSE results at Sharples School.

A number of students celebrated a run of straight As.

They included Ayasha Talati who achieved eight A* and three As and Ismail Zangaria who achieved 10 A*. Ayasha, aged 16, is now off to college to study for her A-levels.

She said: “I will be studying science subjects.

“I feel really good, all the hard work was worth it.”

Sharples School also runs a weekly night class for adults to get their GCSE subjects.

Among those collecting her result was Mary Egan, aged 36, who can now go into teaching after achieving a grade B in her science. She juggled work with looking after her baby.

Mary said: “I am over the moon, I feel so emotional.

“It was the only GCSE I didn’t have and it was tough doing it in a year and working and looking after my 19-month-old, but I would say to anyone just go for it, it is tough but I did enjoy it. I was looking at college, but the courses can expensive and my mum had read about this class in the paper.”

Caroline Molyneux, deputy headteacher, who runs the two hour class said: “The class has worked to hard, they come in tired because it is the end of the day.

“I have some students going on to be paramedics and teachers now they have their science GCSE.”

Every adult achieved a C or above in their science and the school as a whole celebrated a 99 per cent A* to C pass rate in science subjects.
