TEAM GB’s golden couple have given their first interview since flying back from Rio.

Jason Kenny and Laura Trott were on the BBC Breakfast sofa this morning to talk about their Olympics 2016 experience and show off their medal haul.

The 28-year-old, who went to Mount St Joseph School in Farnworth, won three gold medals while his fiancée won two gold – and they now hold ten medals between them.

Since returning to home soil the pair have been settling back into normal life while getting to grips with their medal-winning achievements.

Kenny explained: “It’s kind of sinking in. When we go out for dinner everyone is coming up to us and saying well done and buying us drinks. I don’t think we’ve bought a single drink since coming home so that’s really nice, obviously.

“I wasn’t aware of the pressure at the time. I was aware of things beamed out but had absolutely no idea what or if anyone was watching.

“As special as the Olympics were, we have been away for nearly two months now and it’s nice to be home and be in a normal life for a bit.

“I enjoy our quiet life.”

Kenny’s last race in Rio was also the most dramatic as it was stopped twice and the Bolton cyclist risked disqualification after riders appeared to break the rules by passing the motorised derny as it left the track.

Fortunately, after an agonising wait – the race was finally allowed to run with all finalist hitting the track and finished with Kenny crossing the line for his sixth gold.

Speaking of the experience, he said: “It was just another race for me.

“I think deal with it in different ways. At that point in time I had to assume I was going to be at the start line. If I had been a mess I wouldn’t be in any condition to race anyway. I had to think of the best case scenario and see what will be will be.

“I think Laura worries enough for the both of us!”

Trott added: “If he was any more laid back he would be constantly lying down!”

When asked about wedding plans, the couple said they wouldn’t be rushed.

Trott said: “We have been engaged for ages and people forget Rio, for us, is huge. We want to get one hurdle out of the way first.

“We just want to enjoy the process of planning a wedding.”
