A UNIVERSITY student drove her male companion's car off a Whalley car park and crashed it into parked vehicles just 50 yards up the road.

Blackburn magistrates heard the entire manoeuvre was witnessed by a police officer on duty outside the Rendezvous night club on Accrington Road.

Katy Jane Hall, 19, of Wavell Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, other than in accordance with her provisional licence and without insurance. She was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £250 with £43 costs.

Scott Ainge, prosecuting, said the incident occurred at 3.15am and police were on duty as revellers left the club.

He said they saw a Ford Focus drive away from Whalley centre at speed.

"Suddenly, and without indication, it swerved to the left and collided with a parked car," said Mr Ainge.

"The force of the impact pushed that car into another and the car also damaged a garden wall.

Cathryn Fell, defending, said her client, a business management student at Newcastle University, was very sorry for what had happened.

"She had only driven off the car park next to the club and said it all happened so fast," said Miss Fell.

Michael John Hodgson, 21, of Cambridge Street, Great Harwood, was remanded on bail charged with aiding and abetting Katy Jane Hall to drive with excess alcohol.
