WELL the possible signing of Besart Berisha came completely out of the blue.

I remember talking a few weeks ago about tapping into the Eastern European market and I saw the lad's goal he scored against England the other week.

He beat three men and smashed the ball into the top corner - now that's something we could do with at Burnley.

When I signed for Celtic, on the very same day they signed Rudi Vata, who was one of the first Albanians to come over here, and he did alright.

There was a problem with the language barrier. He couldn't speak a word of English and he had a translator with him.

But he learned very quickly. He was quite clever, and within six months, he was talking in a Scottish accent.

This new lad is supposedly the only player in the Albanian squad who can speak English so he shouldn't have many problems there, although it might take him a while to get used to the Burnley accent.

It's great news for the club that they are able to sign international players, but I'm just happy they're signing anyone because they've got a small squad and it's vital to have competition for places.

That's why I'm delighted they've decided to bring back the reserve team.

If you've got four strikers in your team, the chances are that two of them won't be getting a game. You need them knocking on the door and the only way they can really do that is by making a name for themselves in the reserve team.

In a similar way, if someone is struggling in the first team, put them down into the reserves and let them get their confidence back.

At the time, it was mentioned that they were getting rid of it because they were worried the young players would get burned out, but that's an utter garbage excuse and I'm sure it was done on purely financial reasons.

I remember when I played at Hull City. I played the whole season and then went over to New Zealand for the summer, I played 15 games there and then came straight back to a new season feeling fine.

Players in their teens and early 20s shouldn't be getting burned out, maybe older guys towards the end of their career, but not youngsters.

Look at Kyle Lafferty. All that nonsense that was put out about him not being ready and needing a rest because he's only 19-years-old.

Of course he's ready and he'll be raring to go for next season.

Hopefully it'll be the same with this new lad.

And as far as I'm concerned, the more signings we can add, the better.
