Two new season shirts – a home and away one – were taken from the display dummies at the front of the shop.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch and are examining CCTV footage in a bid to catch the culprits.

A police spokesman said: “There were reports of a break-in at the Blackburn Rovers store.

“They have climbed over a fence and smashed a window and got into the shop display.

“Two shirts have been stolen from the display dummies.

“It happened in the late evening.

“CCTV is one line of enquiry and we are appealing for anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.”

A spokesman for the club confirmed the shirts were new season and are not yet on sale.

He said the shop was open as normal, however.

One fan, who asked not to be named, said he was annoyed it had happened at a time when fans should be sticking together.

“I’m very annoyed someone would do this for the sake of two shirts worth £48 at a time when the club needs all fans to stick together,” he said.

“The jerseys have not even been released yet, so if the fools who did it are walking around wearing them, they will be easily caught.

“I hope if people are offered them they refuse and report it to Rovers and the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log number 0249 of August 1.
