A spokeswoman for Lancashire Constabulary said: "Patrols responded and began to follow a Mercedes Sprinter van which was seen to leave the vicinity.
"The van was followed onto the M61 and headed towards Manchester.
"It failed to respond to attempts to stop it and a low speed pursuit developed.
"The van eventually headed into the GMP force area where the pursuit continued.
"At 22.38pm the van was stung and the pursuit brought to a stop and a man was arrested."
The van was stopped in Agecroft Road in the Agecroft area of Salford and the arrested man was taken to Swinton Police Station.
