He said: "Two occupants of the car were already out by the time we had arrived.

"We then turned our attention to the residents of the house who were uninjured.

"We were worried about whether the structural stability of the house might have been compromised.

"A structural engineer was called to the scene and established that there would be no further damage to the house if the car were to be removed.

"Firefighters then used winches to remove it."

An eyewitness said: "I live across the road. A resident was attempting a 3-point turn in an automatic car and somehow lost control.

"The car went down the lawn and lodged in a bungalow wall. There were no injuries but significant damage to the building and car.

"The fire brigade eventually reversed the car out after the building inspector declared the property safe. Both residents are elderly and are still in the house."

The motorists suffered no serious injures.
