A VOTE of no confidence in Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has been passed by party MPs.

176 Labour MPs voted for the motion, with 40 members voting for Mr Corbyn to remain in his position.

The motion is not binding and Mr Corbyn has insisted that he has no intention of stepping down as leader, despite a mass exodus of his shadow cabinet.

He has been criticised by his former top-team for not showing leadership in urging people to vote for Britain to stay in the European Union last week - with the country choosing to leave the union.

It is believed Mr Corbyn's deputy leader Tom Watson and former front bencher Angela Eagle are now debating who will run against him in a leadership election.

Labour MP for Bolton North East David Crausby was unable to attend the vote because of a family issue but said he would have voted for the no confidence motion.

It is not yet known which way his party colleague Yasmin Qureshi, who represents Bolton South East, has voted.
