THE "No Planet B" climate awareness campaign will rolling into Victoria Square, Bolton, this weekend at 12pm.

And no matter what the weather, campaigners are promising to brighten up the day with the PCS Samba Band, face painters, speakers, food, stalls and entertainers.

People are invited to sign a pledge to help tackle climate change.

It is one of ten events taking place over the the next fortnight.

Chris Chilton, of the Bolton Climate Change Awareness Network co-ordinator, said: "No Planet B urges an approach to our environment that requires us to both care and to act.

"It involves personal responsibility, stewardship at a local level and bold action at government level.

"Climate change is humanity’s biggest challenge. That means it’s our biggest challenge.

"No Planet B will help the people of Bolton to rise to it.

"The ten events planned for the two weeks offer an insight to the size of the problem and the opportunity to be part of the solution."

The activities take place on Saturday at noon.

Mr Chilton said the Paris climate talks (COP 21) in December " culminated in a historic agreement between 195 nations that the climate change crisis was real and caused by human activity" but added there was a long way to go if "catastrophic impact is to be avoided".

He said: "While the Paris agreement represents a critical moment, much more needs to be done if a climate catastrophe is to be averted."

And said that although a low-carbon future was being seriously looked the world is " still on course for a desperate future without real action from everyone."

Mr Chilton said: "The Paris Agreement is still far from being enough."

He added: "Globally, renewable energy technology, sustainable construction and energy conservation programmes, methods of food production are all available and new technologies are being developed continually. "Locally, we can all start to make a real difference and argue for change but we must first understand the scale of the problem.

"The need for action is urgent. "
