A MUM is shaving her head and her daughter cutting her hair to help cancer victims.

Zowie Wood, aged 30, and her daughter Kady-Leigh Sellers, aged 11, are bracing themselves for the chop on August 28.

The brave pair are doing the challenge in memory of Kady’s grandparents and auntie and are hoping to raise £1,000 for charities Cancer Research UK and Little Princess Trust and have already raised £300 through sponsors.

Miss Wood, of Ainsworth Road, in Little Lever said: “I was going to donate my hair at first, but it is quite damaged so I couldn’t, and that’s when Kady said she would like to donate hers to help the little boys and girls who don’t have any."

Kady, a pupil from Bolton Parish Church School, is donating her hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs for child cancer sufferers.

The 30-year-old mum added: “She is excited, she starts high school in September so she is looking forward to going there with a new grown up look.

“I am really nervous about it.

“My hair is a big deal to me and I am always changing it, so my family were quite shocked when I said I wanted to do this.

“But I have had quite a few friends diagnosed with cancer and these people don’t have a choice.

"They can’t decide if they can keep their hair or not when they are having chemotherapy.

“And mine will grow back, so I want to do it in support of those battling and who have lost their lives to this terrible disease.”

The fun day will be held in the Queen Elizabeth in Fletcher Street in Great Lever, from 1pm until 6pm.

There will be a DJ, bouncy castle, face painting and a raffle and tombola on the day.

The mother-of-six added: “I am braving the bald and I am going to embrace it.”
