BOLTON Market will be sharing the love this Saturday with a feast of cookery demos, prizes and fun for all the family.

The Love Your Local Market (LYLM) campaign is in full swing in Bolton.

the fortnight (May 17 to 31) is organised by the National Association of British Markets Authorities to highlight the importance of local markets, and celebrate market culture.

Last Saturday, Bolton’s first teenage market was held and attracted hundreds of visitors. And this weekend everyone is invited to Bolton Market to join in the fun.

With the news that Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain will be headlining the Bolton Food and Drink Festival in August, youngsters who are aspiring to be bakers have a fantastic opportunity to join a free children’s cupcake workshop.

The session is hosted by Cake and Decorate and runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

A series of cookery demos will then take place in the Lifestyle Hall. Traders from food stalls BBQ (at 1pm), Nkono (at 1.30pm) and Rice N Oodles (at 2pm) will rustle up dishes, with free tasters on offer.

Floral experts from Plantations (at 12.30pm) and Floral by Kays (at 2.40pm) will also deliver masterclasses on how to put arrangements together.

Visitors also have the chance to win a tropical flower arrangement from Plantations and a wedding bouquet from Florals by Kay.

And free face painting will be on offer from 11am to 3pm.

Leader of Bolton Council Cllr Cliff Morris said: “The teenage market was a huge success and we want as many as possible to come to Bolton Market this Saturday.

“Bolton has one of the best local markets in the country and it is visited by people from across the region.

“Markets are a crucial part of the local economy and a superb way of attracting visitors to our town, and it is great to see markets being celebrated in this way.”

Bolton Market is on Ashburner Street, and the council recently invested £4.5 million in renovating it.
