POLICE were called to a Blackburn sheltered housing complex after a 95-year-old man was discovered dead outside the building.

Following an investigation, officers decided there were "no suspicious circumstances" and a file has been passed to the coroner.

The body was discovered at Hornby Court in Lancaster Road, having apparently fallen from a second floor window.

The three-storey sheltered complex, run by Places for People, has 40 one-bedroom flats for residents aged 55 and over and was built in 1986.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at around 9.50am on Sunday, May 22, following reports the body of a man had been found outside an address at Hornby Court in Lancaster Road, Blackburn.

“Emergency services attended and a 95-year-old man was sadly pronounced deceased.

“It appears he may have fallen from a second-floor window on a communal staircase.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner. “

A Places for People spokesman said: “We are saddened by the death of one of the residents at Hornby Court and would like to share our sincere condolences.

“Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

A spokesman for Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Senior Coroner Michael Singleton, said: “I can confirm we have received a file on this incident.”
