A 30-YEAR-OLD man who stole to fund his heroin addiction was given a final chance to kick the habit.

Blackburn magistrates imposed a suspended prison sentence on Ehsan Ulhaq for shop thefts, possession of heroin and breach of a community order.

And the chairman told him: “It is up to you now. There are people trying to help you but you have got to do something.”

Ulhaq, of Hollin Bridge Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to five charges of theft, one of possessing heroin, breach of a community order and two bail act offences.

He was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months. He was ordered to complete a nine months of drug rehabilitation and 30 days’ rehabilitation activity.

“Because of your addiction you have shown a total disregard for previous orders of the court,” said the chairman. “If you ignore this one you will be going to prison.”
