A PROVISIONAL date has been set for the inquest into the death of a former Farnworth carnival queen and school secretary.

Mother-of-two Karen Green died alongside boyfriend Ben Jubbs in a New Year's Day flat fire at their home in Blackley, north Manchester.

No formal cause of death has been ascertained and Manchester Coroner's Office has scheduled a full inquest for May 25 at Manchester Town Hall.

However this date may be changed if the final reports from Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue take longer to finish.

It is thought Karen Green, aged 40, and Mr Jubbs, aged 37, died of smoke inhalation after a blaze was accidentally sparked by a discarded cigarette.

A crowdfunding campaign set up for the children of Ms Green, who used to be a secretary at All Saints CofE Primary School in Devon Street, Farnworth, has reached its £2,000 target.

Donations came from among others staff at Level nightclub, who gave £290, and the sister of Justine Thompson, a 44-year-old mother-of-two who died days after being run over by a car in Bootle near Liverpool on New Year's Eve.
