A BEAUTY therapist from Darwen is days away from holding her first ever pageant to help raise money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Miss Baldwin suffered from Guillian-Barre Syndrome and was treated at the hospital.

The rare syndrome is a serious condition that targets the peripheral nervous system. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks part of the nervous system and can affect movement and function.

Miss Baldwin made a recovery at the age of three, but her brother Mark Elliott, who was only three-years-old, died in hospital, from unknown causes, in 1988.

Her sister, Jessica, also died in the hospital after being born with a hole in her heart in 1991.

The 28-year-old’s mum, Tracy, chose the charity that will benefit from the fundraising.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is bidding to build a new helipad.

The therapist and model said she wanted to help the hospital, as it had been fantastic with her family throughout their illnesses.

She said: “I owe the hospital my life. Without them I would definitely not be here and they helped me with so much.

“I had to learn to walk again as I was found in my cot paralysed.

“My brother and sister sadly were not as lucky as me, but the people treating them were amazing and we wanted to do something to thank them.”

Many of the businesses in Darwen were contacted and more than a dozen have donated raffle prizes to help raise money for the charity.

The winner of the pageant is set to receive a 12-month modelling contract with Models For.

Miss Baldwin said: “I have had so much support from so many people it has been fantastic.

“All the businesses who have donated to the raffle need a really big thank you as the prizes on offer are great and they will help raise more money.”

The event starts at 7.30pm on Saturday at the night club in Market Street on Saturday and admission is £6.
