A SHOPPER got a nasty surprise after paying £125 for a bottle of pop, which they were conned into believing was a mobile phone.
The victim was approached by two men in a silver car in a car park in Burnley on Tuesday afternoon who offered them a mobile phone.

When they handed over £125 cash the men handed over a bag which was supposed to contain the mobile phone. It was only when the victim checked the bag that they discovered a bottle of fizzy drink in place of the phone.
Watch liaison officer Keith Sandham said: “This is a well known scam with many variations. Please be aware of this as they may well be travelling all over East Lancashire or have associates using the same tactics.
“If approached you should report it immediately on 999 as a crime in progress.”
