A HAIRDRESSER is proving to be a cut above by agreeing to climb Africa’s highest peak for charity.

Craig Henderson, of Noggi’s Hairdressing on Bank Street in Bolton, will travel to Tanzania this autumn to climb 19,000ft Mt Kilimanjaro the week before his 30th birthday.

He has already been in training to make sure that he is fully prepared for his ascent.

Craig, who aims to raise £3,000 towards the charity effort, says he is looking forward to the challenge.

The father-of-two, who has so far raised £960 for the Kenyan children’s charity the Nasio Trust, said: “I’ve been altitude running to get me used to the conditions I will be facing. I wear an altitude mask whilst running.”

Providing food, shelter, education and healthcare, the Nasio Trust has two early childhood development centres that cares for 400 children. Many have been orphaned by HIV and AIDS.

Craig said: “I haven’t done anything like this before. It is an amazing small charity supporting the HIV orphans and vulnerable children of Kenya. These children have dreams just like children in the UK. It will be nice to do something for kids who need a second chance as my own children have everything they need in life."

To help him raise the funds, Craig will be hosting a number of events such as a ‘Hairathon’ on 4 April, where he will cut hair non-stop for 24 hours at Noggi’s Hairdressing.

He added: “I’m also hosting a charity night at Our Ladies of Lourdes Social Club in Farnworth 19 March. Tickets are £10 and there will be a raffle, DJ and food provided. Doors are open at 7:00pm.”
