SPORTING Nicola Casey and her team-mates are giving a big "leg up" to a charitable cause.

The Bury netball player is donning bright stripy knee-high socks and neon leg warmers to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

Nicola is a member of the Quays Queens, made up of players from Bury, Bolton and Manchester who met playing at Salford Quays, and have decided to take up the 'Crazy Legs' challenge

The 33-year-old, who lives in Walshaw, and plays centre for the team, said: “We’ve really enjoyed pulling on bright bottom halves to raise awareness of Stand Up To Cancer. The Crazy Legs challenge is a fun and simple way to support Stand Up To Cancer and help raise money to fund research that saves lives.

“Many of us know of someone who has been affected by cancer, so this is a cause close to our hearts. We’re determined to do all that we can to help beat this devastating disease.”

A joint fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, Stand Up To Cancer aims to raise money to fund vital research which will get new and better treatments to cancer patients faster.

Around four people are said to be diagnosed with cancer every hour in the North West.

Alison Barbuti, Cancer Research UK’s spokeswoman for the North West, said: “We’d like to thank Nicola and her team mates for standing up to cancer in style."
