Extra time to quiz man over suspect packages

POLICE have been given extra time to question a man arrested on suspicion of sending a dangerous package to a Blackburn councillor.
It means that Greater Manchester Police now have until Monday to hold a 42-year-old who was arrested by the force's Counter Terrorism Unit at an address in Robert Street, Tyldesley.
The man was arrested on Monday and the address has been searched.
The package sent to the Labour councillor contained caustic soda -a chemical that can burn skin and cause severe breathing difficulties. It can also kill if drunk.
Another package containing the same substance was sent to a journalist in Glasgow.
Police are investigating the possibility a group called the Scottish National Liberation Army were involved in the sending of the packages as one contained a letter signed SNLA.
The package sent to Blackburn was discovered at the town's sorting office in Canterbury Street on Thursday, April 24.
