Nelson man on 'most wanted' list

A NELSON man has been added to Lancashire police's list of most wanted suspects.

Kamrem Ali, 25, is wanted after failing to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court accused of assaulting a his ex-partner, a 20-year-old woman, in Preston last December.

It is alleged he went to her house in Elgin Street to visit their young son, lost his temper and punched her to the head.

Officers released pictures of Ali yesterday and warned him and all the suspects who are on the run: "We never give up".

Inspector John Clucas from Lancashire Constabulary said: "This was a particularly nasty assault and because of the severity of it the police have decided to add this man on the site to help assist with his arrest."

Eight men featured on the site - www.lancashire.police.uk - have been brought to justice since it was launched in January.

One man handed himself to the police and three others were caught after being identified by the public, who had seen them on the site.

Police have also added Bakir Ali Mahmood, 22, from Preston to the website. He was due to appear at Preston Magistrates Court accused of indecently assaulting a woman in Preston. The alleged offence took place in January.

Insp Clucas said: "We are keen to trace these men so that they can be brought to justice. We never give up trying to trace individuals wanted on warrant and any information, even the smallest detail, should be passed on to us."

He added: "We are aware that the internet can reach a much broader range of people and it is hoped that with so many people looking for these men our chances of catching them is greatly increased."

Other outstanding wanted suspects on the website include several with East Lancashire connections.

Stuart Clifford Murthwaite, 48, is wanted jointly with Catherine Gillen, 45, for failing to appear at Preston Crown Court in February for allegations of contraband smuggling and mortgage deceptions. Both have strong family connections in East Lancashire.

Nigel Hunt, 35, was sentenced to five and a half years imprisonment for Class A' drugs offences. On August 12 last year Hunt absconded from Kirkham open prison. He has connections in the East Lancashire and Greater Manchester areas.

David Anthony Stuart aka Ashworth, 31, was charged with conspiracy to supply controlled drugs. Initially he was remanded into custody pending his trial at Preston Crown Court. Prior to the trial Stuart was granted bail. He failed to appear in July 2005.

Stuart may be in the Malaga area of Spain working as a funeral director, however, he still has strong connections in the East Lancashire area.

Paul Padden, 34, is wanted for offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Padden is thought to have fled to Amsterdam.

Originally from Accrington, he also has connections in the Oswaltwistle area.
