IT is not every day that councillors make dreams come true, but that was certainly the case for one businesswoman.

Hayley Taggart, of Bambinos Ltd, asked Bury Council for permission to change the use of a house in Manchester Road, near the junction with Radcliffe Road, so it can be used as a nursery for under-fives.

Miss Taggart spoke at a meeting of Bury planning committee at the town hall on Tuesday night and said the project was "her dream".

She said: "It has been a dream of mine for some time to open a nursery, especially in this area where I grew up.

"I now feel that after gaining years of experience in teaching and working in nurseries and in other childcare settings that it is the right time to pursue my dream.

"I believe I have found the perfect location to build a safe, secure and stimulating environment for children to thrive."

Cllr Tamoor Tariq said: "I think it's great that we've got someone like Hayley who I would describe as a silent community champion.

"She actually has another family business in catering and she works day and night and now she's committing to another business, which is something we should welcome and celebrate.

"I've been in touch with lots of constituents who have struggled to find local nursery places, so it is much needed.

"The nursery will prove to be a great community asset and it is pleasing that it is has formed a partnership with Bury Sports Club."

Five neighbours, living in Manchester Road and Caton Close, formally objected to the idea, though none attended the meeting.

They were concerned that the nursery could cause too much noise, but the committee was satisfied that soundproofing was sufficient.

Staff and parents will not be able to park on Manchester Road and must use Bury Sports Club instead.

A new footpath will be created so people can get between the nursery and the club.

The committee granted Miss Taggart permission to change the use of the building and also allowed her to install a stainless steel sign advertising the nursery.
