THE family of a young driver who lost his life last year have offered their thoughts and condolences to those involved in the Mellor death crash.

Terry Hannon's son, Matthew Hannon, 22, died in the arms of childhood pal Steven Hayhurst after smashing his Renault Clio into a parked van in Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn, last January.

Matthew's family are key supporters of the Lancashire Telegraph Wasted Lives campaign.

And now Terry has posted a message to those affected by the Mellor crash in the Lancashire Telegraph website forums.

He wrote: "We would like to offer our heartfelt condolences for all of the poor family and friends connected to the young men involved in the weekend accident at Mellor.

"Our hearts go out to you all. When we read stories such as this it is absolutely heartbreaking to know that yet another group of parents have got to go through the anguish and the aftermath of such a tragedy.

"It further strengthens our resolve to support the Telegraph and Lancashire Partnership and help radically change the way young people think about driving.

"How many of these young men would have looked at the Telegraph campaign prior to Saturday evening and thought to themselves It will never happen to me?' "All of them I suspect.

"We sincerely hope that the young men that survived are okay."
