AN ice-skating champion and her family are reconsidering plans to move to Blackburn after a wrecking spree by vandals.

Sally Hoolin and her skating partner Jake Bennett were forced to miss an important national training camp after thugs smashed the windscreen of his Subaru outside his house in Rockcliffe Street.

Ten other cars in the street were also smashed up over the weekend.

The duo, the British junior pairs figure-skating champions, practise for hours each day, often beginning sessions at Blackburn Ice Arena at 6am.

Sally, 15, travels six days a week from home in Lytham St Annes before returning to go to school.

Her mother, Pam, said that she was planning to move to the area to cut travelling and to allow Sally to concentrate on her skating.

But she is now reconsidering the move after being shocked by the "mindless" vandalism.

She said: "Our house is now up for sale and we were looking in the Blackburn area but this incident really shook me up.

"It is so annoying and soul-destroying to have thugs destroy your property."

Sally and Jake, 20, were due to attend a training session at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham on Sunday but after the car was damaged they had no transport.

Police are now investigating the damage and have distributed leaflets around Rockcliffe Street and Highfield Road.

Sergeant Colin Dassow said: "The people responsible for these mindless acts of criminal damage have no respect for other people's property.

"The cars were damaged between approximately 1am and 2.30am on Sunday morning and I appeal to local residents with any information about the incidents to contact us."
