ORGANISERS for this year's Spirit of Bolton aim to make it the town's biggest yet — and want you to help.

This year is the eighth annual event of its kind, which aims to bring all the different communities in the town together in Victoria Square.

Groups in Bolton who are keen to promote their local community work, provide cultural activities or diverse musical entertainment are invited to take part this year.

The Swaminarayan Bagpipe Band will be entertaining the crowds with their unique blend of Indian and Scottish music while dressed in full Scottish regalia.

There will also be arts, crafts, entertainment, singing, dancing, music and drama performed by people from a range of religious and cultural backgrounds.

Last year's Spirit of Bolton, organised by Bolton Interfaith Council (BIC), saw hundreds of people take part.

Chan Parmar, strategic officer at BIC, which has representatives from all major faith communities in Bolton, said: "The Spirit of Bolton event encompasses everything that is positive about our diverse community and the good partnerships we have in the town and is a celebration of this good work.

"In the current climate it's very important that groups work together and show off their customs and traditions from the past and come together in the town centre as one community."

Spirit of Bolton is a multicultural 'One Bolton' event which celebrates the town's working partnerships, as well as providing a fun programme of activities.

It is supported by organisations including Bolton Council, Bolton Council of Mosques, Bolton Christian Community Cohesion, Bolton Hindu Forum, Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, Bolton at Home, Bolton CVS and community groups.

Mr Parmar added: "If we are lucky and the sun shines it really is the most wonderful event. We would invite anyone from any background to take part in it with us."
