FOOD lovers were tantalised with traditional and exotic food at the annual Lancashire Food Festival.

The event, in its tenth year, offered people chance to sample and buy traditional Lancashire food alongside international treats in the Festival Hall and Marquee at Accrington Town Hall.

As well as 30 exhibitors there were cookery demonstrations in the cookery theatre, tutored wine tasting and street music and dancing.

Chef Philippa James was on hand with a demonstration using local produce.

Oswaldtwistle Mills and the Haworth Art Gallery also graced the festival with local produce.

Oswaldwistle Mills provided a deli with a "Crumbly Cheese" counter and sausages from the award winning Sausage Factory' as well as serving Lancashire hot pot in its restaurant.

But Jackie Mottershead, store manager at the Mills, said: "We have had more trade but it hasn't made a huge difference to us.

"Last year there was free bus up from the town hall and this year they have taken it off and exhibitors have been reluctant to come here."

Haworth Art Gallery ran a food-related exhibition called Serves 4-6' which displayed photographs of food shops and restaurants obtained from the Accrington local studies library.

They also had scones and jam on sale in the tea room.

Helen Barret, gallery assistant, said: "We had more people in even though we do not have that much on."

The festival was organised by Hyndburn Leisure Services with support from Made in Lancashire and Hyndburn Council.
