FIVE Post Office branches in East Lancashire have been selected for the roll-out of the mail giant's assault on the mobile phone market.

Bosses at the Post Office have launched their own cut-price mobile service, in partnership with EE, as they seek fresh outlets to keep the service relevant.

And branches in Blackburn, Accrington, Darwen, Longridge and Clayton-le-Moors have been picked as launch sites for the pay-as-you-go campaign.

A spokesman said: "Post Office Mobile will add to our 170-plus essential services, which we already provide to our customers, including home phone and broadband.

"We know customers in and around Blackburn and Accrington like to use 'pay-as-you-go' as they come in to our branches to top up.

"But many pay-as-you-go customers are paying really high call charges and shouldn't be. Our service provides great value and simple prices all supported by our dedicated customer service team."

The company is looking to tempt customers with eight pence per minute landline call rates, 10p texts and double top-ups in a 30-day period.
