And despite trying to stay clam, she couldn’t help spilling the beans to her family and friends.
The 59-year-old, from Britten Close, said: “I was at my mother-in-law’s for her birthday when they called me. I tried to act casual, but couldn’t hide my joy and told my husband.
“I announced it to all my friends on Saturday too. I was trying to keep it quiet – but I couldn’t help myself!”
Maggie, who has completed eight Starlight Walks for the hospice, plans to spend her winnings on a holiday.
She added: “With living so close, you can see the benefit of your giving. I take things to their charity shops and collect my loose change as well.
“It belongs to all of us so we should support it.”
