Business studies teenagers from Blackburn College have just finished a six-week placement through the UK Career Academy programme

The business studies teenagers from Blackburn College have just finished a six-week placement through the UK Career Academy programme.

The national scheme enables students to go on internships to learn new skills, get mentoring advice, and improve their chances of getting a job.

Some of the industries they worked in include finance, local government and public relations.

Chloe Bullen, 17, completed her placement at Blackburn Town Hall in the communications team.

She said: “I found it very interesting. It's given me a better experience of what work is really like and knowing what to expect.”

The students have to work hard to get on the scheme. They have to have been getting good grades and undergo an interview.

Toni Kavanagh, a tutor at the college on Fielden Street, said the scheme was good boost for students.

"It's a fantastic experience for them. It also improves their industry knowledge and presentation skills to senior management."
