A FIRE ripped through a roof of a semi-detached house in Stoneclough.

No-one was in at the house in Riverside Drive when the fire broke out just after 11.30pm last night.

At the height of the blaze four fire engines from Farnworth and Bolton Central were at the scene.

Firefighters worked hard to stop the blaze from spreading to the rest of the property and the neighbouring house.

The building inspector was called to the property to ensure it was safe.

One crew from Farnworth stay on the scene into late morning dampening the fire down.

Fire investigation officers were there this morning trying to establish the cause of the blaze, which destroyed the roof of the property.

Farnworth watch manager Darren Banks said: "There were four engines on the scene last night. We have managed to save the rest of the house and next door.

"We are investigating how it started."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 11.40pm firefighters were called to a reports of a building fire.

"On arrival they found a fire in the roof of a semi-detached house well alight.

"Firefighters from Farnworth and Bolton Central extinguished the fire.

"There were no injuries and the cause is unknown. There is going to be a joint investigation with Greater Manchester Police to establish the cause."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were made aware of this incident and there is nothing at this stage to indicate it is suspicious.

"There were no people in the address."
