FIREFIGHTERS came to the rescue of a mother whose baby was locked in her car.

The mum, named online as Nicola Hubbard, parked her blue Ford Fiesta behind McDonald's in Knowsley Street on Wednesday, June 10 when an electrical fault left her baby son and her car keys locked inside.

Bolton Central's Blue Watch was called out to the scene at about 12.30pm where they made an improvised hook and pry bar to open the door.

The vehicle suffered some damage but baby Lucas was not harmed.

Watch manager Ian Read said: "It was a warm day but not too sunny thankfully. The mother was quite distressed when we got there but the baby was asleep and seemed quite happy — although he was due a feed so we knew he was waking up soon.

"We had to improvise but we got him out. There is no problem that we can't work out."

Ms Hubbard later tweeted to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) to offer her thanks to the watch.

She said: "Lucas had a lovely trip to Bolton Central fire station today to say thank you to the lovely firemen that rescued him.

"A shame that they were out on call but there were more people to rescue. I can't thank you enough."
