DAREDEVILS have been invited to take part in the first ever zipwire over Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park stadium.

Manager Gary Bowyer and midfielder Jason Lowe took time out of their summer break to pledge their support the event, which will raise funds for the town's youth zone.

Up to 200 people will soar above the ground for 150 metres - a challenge backed by club legend Alan Shearer.

Vicky Profit, events manager at Blackburn Youth Zone, said the occasion would boost links between Blackburn Youth Zone, in Jubilee Street, and the football club.

She said: "You will fly through the air above Blackburn’s famous football pitch for a thrilling 150 metres.

"Blackburn Rovers Zipwire is an ideal opportunity for members of the local community to get sponsored and take part in this first ever zipwire challenge at Ewood Park.

"By registering in the event, participants will be showing their support for our Youth Zone, as well as doing their bit to help make it possible for us to continue to provide a safe and positive a space for young people aged eight to 18 in the local area."

The zipwire will be installed at Ewood Park on September 5 during an international break for the Championship club.

Former Rovers and England striker Alan Shearer said: "Some of the greatest highlights of my career were on the pitch at Ewood and it will always hold very special memories for me.

"I encourage all the people of Blackburn to register today for this first ever zipwire at Ewood and help raise money for the charity Blackburn Youth Zone.

"Rovers fans are some of the most loyal and passionate supporters around and I’m sure everyone will help and support this exciting and fun event."

Entry is priced at £26 and is open to anyone aged 17 who weighs less than 17 stone. No experience is necessary and all zippers will be fully harnessed.

Ms Profit added: "As it is the first time this event has happened at Ewood Park we are expecting a huge public response, so contact us now and don’t miss out."
