A DOG which sparked an online appeal after it was discovered injured on the A666 has died.
A spokesman for North West Motorway Police said the owners of the pet, which was discovered on the slip road from Kearsley Island to the southbound A666, had been informed.
A member of the public found the dog, called Kizmo, on the road at 12.45pm this afternoon and moved him onto the grass verge before calling police.
North West Motorway Police were initially unable to get hold of Kizmo’s owners and put out an appeal on Twitter urging them to get in touch.
But police have now managed to speak to the owners and pass on the sad news.
A spokesman for the motorway police said: “Unfortunately, the dog’s injuries were severe and he sadly died.
“Contact has now been made with the dog’s owner and they are now fully aware of what has happened.
“The member of the public who stopped to help was not the person who ran Kizmo over.”
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said the incident had not caused any traffic delays.
