A CARE home in Blackburn has been slammed after it was only given a positive rating in one category out of five.

Ravenswing Manor Residential Care Home was branded “inadequate” by the Care Quality Commission, which also concluded that the safety and the leadership of the home were also “inadequate”.

The effectiveness of the service and it’s responsiveness was deemed to be “requiring improvement” following the visit last month.

In the report, which was published this week, the home in St Francis Road, which has 14 residents, was only given the positive rating of “good” on one section, caring.

A spokesman for the CQC, writing in the report, said: “The service was not safe. Although most people had no concerns about their safety in Ravenswing Manor we found the recruitment systems in place did not adequately protect people from the risk of unsuitable staff.

“Staffing levels at night were insufficient to ensure people always received safe and appropriate care.

“The service was not well-led. The service had a manager who was registered with the Care Quality Commission.

“Staff told us they felt well-supported by the manager.

“The service was not effectively meeting people’s needs.

“Recording systems were not sufficiently accurate and up to date to ensure people always received the care they required.

“Induction, training, supervision and appraisal systems were insufficient to ensure staff had the necessary skills to be able to deliver effective care.

“The service was not always responsive to people’s needs.

“People who used the service had limited opportunities to make decisions about the care and support they received.

“There was a lack of evidence that complaints received at the service had been recorded and investigated.

Owner George Daniels said: “We are a quality-assured home and we are aware of the issues that the home faces.

“The home will have regular visits from the council and are working to address the issues.”
