BOLTON-based bakers Greenhalgh's rose to the occasion when they supplied more than 2000 pieces of gingerbread for an edible house for the London tourist attraction Shrek's Adventure.

Made from 700 real gingerbread biscuit tiles edged with 100kg of icing, the ogre-sized house was adorned with 50 huge jelly babies, 60 giant gobstoppers and surrounded by giant meringue boulders and candy canes.

The confectionary pop-up was inspired by Shrek and Princess Fiona’s honeymoon hideaway, as featured in the movie, Shrek 2.

The Giant Gingerbread House was built by London-based Cake and Food Creatives, The Tattooed Bakers standing at 3.5m tall.

It was the edible ticket office for Shrek’s Adventure opening in July.

It took a team of bakers eight weeks to create, and was erected overnight much to the delight of passers by who were invited to take a bite out of it.
