HUNDREDS of motorcycle enthusiasts took over Hoghton Tower yesterday for the annual motorcycle sprint event.

The iconic tower’s long and imposing driveway was the centrepiece for a test of nerves and skill as participants competed for glory on a dry but cool Sunday afternoon.

Hoghton Tower has been the host of the motorcycle sprint for over 30 years now, and the historic venue is the perfect location for the test.

It has become an important event on the biking calendar and once again hundreds of committed motorcycle enthusiasts made their way to the tower on the hill.

A variety of bikes were on show, from traditional British makes through to European models and those manufactured in Japan, while there was also a section for homemade and customised motorbikes.

Adding to the 1950s feel, the race is split into different categories and the winner of each is calculated by time taken to navigate the narrow and steep course.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Elena Faraoni, a trustee of Hoghton Tower, said: “The motorcycle sprint has been an important event on our calendar for many years now.

“It is a really enjoyable day for everyone and we look forward to hosting the event every year.”

The annual event raises funds for the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust, with all spectator admission, at £10 a person, going towards the Trust.

It is a popular family day out as adults and children enjoy watching the bikes, both modern and classic, try and reach the top of the driveway in the fastest time possible.
