CHECK out a kind-hearted duo from Bury's Tesco store whose debut marathon raised more than £1,000 for "SuperJosh".

Store manager Paul Fallon and fresh food manager James Harper are celebrating a double achievement of completing the 26 miles of Greater Manchester Marathon but generated £1,001 for the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour charity.

After the marathon novices were sponsored by colleagues, customers, friends and family, a cheque was presented to Dawn Fidler, mother of 14-year-old Joshua who died last November. In the past, the youngster had visited the Tesco store at Woodfields retail park.

Mr Harper said: "This was the first time both of us had run a marathon. We wanted to do something, so we could tick off a box in our bucket list. And we wanted to do it for a really good cause, a local charity."

He added: "We'd been training for it since January but it was very tough on the day. But the crowd kept us going as they were cheering us all the way round We were wearing the 'SuperJosh' charity T-shirt. Such support kept us going throughout."

Mr Harper has since been bitten by the marathon bug and has signed up for the same event next year.

"I'm already a glutton for punishment," he added.
